Tarantella continues her strong performance, and took a clear victory in Henri Lloyd Race on 5.9.2009. Second was Merinna and third Astraia. There were 16 competitors in class ORC3, which is a record in this race. We were the fourth smallest in our class in handicap.

The course of 30,3 nm started with a beating leg out to Helsinki Lighthouse in southern winds of 7 - 12 knots. The wind was expected to turn gradually to east, therefore it would be beneficial to stay longer on the starboard tack. However, the wind shifted back and forth. Closer to the end of the leg, when staying on the port tack we found that the wind apparently was increasing to the west, and we took a longer tack westward. When we met our competitors again, we found we had taken a "kenguru jump" and had bypassed FinnFun and several other of our bigger competitors. We rounded Helsinki lighthouse just a minute behind Astraia and Alexia. FinnFun rounded fourth a minute behind us.

The course continued as a spinnaker reach to Jänissaari south mark north of Isosaari.

FinnFun bypassed us on the way, but thanks to our perfect reaching type floater, we were able to keep up with our bigger competitors, and lost very little. We rounded Jänissaari mark as fourth boat only four minutes behind Astraia. Before us were also FinnFun and Alexia.

The final leg to finish was somewhat more challenging in the weakening eastern wind. It was important to do the gybes and angles correct. We found the wind was stronger closer to the north shore. We bypassed Hernesaari very close while our competitotrs took a more southern route. We succeeded in approaching  them, bypassed Alexia and finished as third boat in class just a minute after FinnFun and half a minute after Astraia.

One secret to our good go must have been our very clean bottom, which was thoroughly cleaned prior to the race. We did all maneuvers perfect, and had a very enjoyable race.

By this we strenghten our leading position in the Pro Sailor Offshore Ranking. The final race is Syysseilaus on 13.9.
