Tarantella managed a bitter second place (class+over all) in the light wind Veritas Pentala Race today. Eight boats participated in class IMS 3.

Our start at the leeward flag was just fine, but in the wrong end of the line. After the first tack to port towards Kytö we realized it could hardly have been worse and we probably got away as the third last boat. Both FiftyFUN and Mellow Light took a false start and had to return back over the starting line. FiftyFun and Merinna tacked immediately to port and towards Kytö. This proved to be a rather perfect strategy, as they got a huge private breeze and gained on the wind shift near Kytö and were a good bit ahead of the others.

Results here. Pictures in the Gallery.

On the first round we succeeded in slowly bypassing FiftyFun and Fun First. Further on in the race we sailed better and especially well towards the finish, as we bypassed Minnamari on the final reach towards Kytö. On the spinnaker to the finishing line we placed ourselves on the right side of a substantial wind shift and beat Merinna to the line and got the line honours. FiftyFun finished some six minutes after us, and won the race in calculated time.
The wind was mostly no more than 6-9 kn, but as the race was circular random and had a good bit of downwind, the results were calculated at about 10 knots wind. With 8 knots we might have taken the race, as FiftyFUN beat us by a mere 40 seconds (our handicap to FiftyFun is substaniially less in week winds). Second place both in class and over all.

Third place went to Minnamari and fourth place to Inkeri.

FiftyFun strenghtened her position in the Ranking, as Tarantella did regarding her second place.

Next race is Henri Lloyd 9.9.2006.
